San Francisco’s Troubled Skyscraper: Settlement Inspected with the “Eye in the Sky”
“It is an exciting, vastly underutilised technology,” says a professional engineer reviewing Value.Space data on the Millennium Tower in San Francisco.

Higher-than-expected subsidence or settlement can create stress or even damage the integrity of a building or structure. The stability of a high-rise building is especially critical, and the case of the 58-story, sinking, and tilting Millennium Tower has made headlines for years.
Structural engineer Casey Jones has analysed this case on his YouTube channel, which is dedicated to interesting civil engineering challenges. In his latest update on the Millennium Tower, he reviews data from Value.Space’s satellite-based assessment of the skyscraper’s settlement and compares it to on-site movement monitoring results.
After examining detailed reports on the movement of the Millennium Tower from San Francisco’s Building Department and the consultants working on stabilizing the building, he found that Value.Space’s data has a strong correlation with the results seen in other reports. “What I like about this is that it’s completely independent data; we’re not relying on consultants or the city of San Francisco. You can use this methodology to assess many buildings.”
Furthermore, in the video, Casey Jones demonstrates that users of Value.Space’s services are not limited to just reviewing pre-prepared reports but can explore and discover more with an easy-to-use and intuitive online account. “What is cool about the account I have with Value.Space is that they’ve done the analysis, but I can select my own points to interactively work with the data they’ve compiled.”
“It is a very exciting technology. This technology has been around for a while, but I think it is vastly underutilised.”
Be sure to subscribe to Casey’s channel to be part of the journey as he “learns the best use cases for this technology relative to asset management, monitoring buildings, retaining walls, bridges, and other similar infrastructure”.
