Movement Identified on Texas Dam Under Failure Watch
Value.Space’s analysis of Lake Livingston Dam near Houston, Texas, featured in the news.

On June 28, 2024 – the Trinity River Authority of Texas declared a “potential failure watch” for the Lake Livingston Dam spillway. According to the authority’s official statement, the structure has been “adversely impacted by the recent rainfall and flooding in the dam’s drainage area”.
Following the issuance of the public alert for potential failure, Value.Space conducted a satellite-based assessment of the dam and its spillway. The analysis revealed two significant movement clusters on the dam, along with additional movement clusters on the dam's spillway and slope.
KPRC, a Houston based channel, spoke to Value.Space’s Reijo Pold and featured the analysis results in more detail.
The stability and integrity of the dam is vital for the City of Houston as it relies on water from Lake Livingston that flows from the dam into the Trinity River. Up to 70% of the city’s drinking water supplies are drawn from the river, amounting to over 800 million gallons per day. Failure of the dam could cause disruptions to Houston’s water supply.
